Cracked Idea
A directive from European Union officials in Belgium has small egg farmers screaming. The new regulation requires that all eggs be stamped stating the “method” of its production, the country of origin, the producer’s code number, a “best before” date, and “information about the hen” which laid it. Small farmers, especially those producing free-range or organic eggs, will be especially hard hit by the requirements; inkjet printers capable of printing on eggs start at about 5,000 pounds (US$9,500). An official in Brussels brushed off that complaint, telling English farmers the task of labeling the eggs “would be a nice job for farmers’ wives.” (London Telegraph) ...No way: they’re too busy fomenting revolt.
